Our Story

Out of Alex was started in 1993 with the aim of uplifting impoverished local communities. Our vision is to leave a legacy of design, skill and commitment to future generations, by empowering women nationally to be self sufficient. Our mission is to ensure a viable and sustainable business by transferring skills in crafting (hand embroidery) to impoverished communities, hence improving their standard of living and uplifting them in a socio-economic way.

Out of Alex has a philosophy of a hand up and not a hand out. We strive to produce the highest quality hand embroidered products. Our vision of commitment to future generations is underpinned with respect, compassion and encouragement of each and every woman.

Our range is made up of table cloths, table runners, placemats, napkins, tray cloths, tea cosies, kitchen towels, Guest hand towels, cards, key rings, aprons, lavender bags, laundry bags, shoe bags, peg bags, oven gloves, pillowcases and Christmas accessories and one off commissioned art pieces. Our key focus is hand embroidery that provides much needed employment. Products are embroidered in the ladies homes, group leaders deliver and collect new work once a week. Our seamstress then makes up each item, which is then washed, ironed and packaged.
